We offer...
...an approachable, family-friendly congregation with members from all age groups.
We have been building a church community committed to reaching out to share love and the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we look forward to the future, we are determined to seize the same vision and take the same leap of faith that first made possible our mission here on the east side of Evansville. We have added to our building several times and extensively remodeled our sanctuary. A single floor design insures easy access to anywhere in the building for anyone who has special needs for getting around.
Being friendly to new or potential members is very important to this congregation. To that end, we strive to be welcoming and invitational to everyone. We are open and accepting of others and feel that diversity in opinions and beliefs is welcome and healthy for the life of the church.
Our History
St. John's East is part of a rich history which began on April 1, 1850, when St. John's Evangelical Church was organized at the corner of Eighth Street and Chandler Avenue in Evansville. This church flourished and became very large and eventually moved to its present location in the near downtown. In the middle of the last century, Evansville began to grow to the east. In 1957, a five-acre tract of land was purchased on outer Lincoln Avenue, and a ground breaking ceremony took place on December 20, 1959. Less than a year later on November 13, 1960, St. John's East was completed and dedicated. At the time the church was built, there was very little growth in this neighborhood. We remained a part of St. John's until 1993 when we became a church in our own right. We wished to retain our heritage by choosing to become St. John's East.
